From this semester, students can apply for a dormitory room with roommates they want. This policy was made because so many people felt uncomfortable living with people they don't know well. This writer is planning to share a room with a person I lived with last year.

Dormitory 3 is quite far from the University. It takes nearly 30 minutes on foot.

You can also take a bus to reduce your travel time.

BUS

(Within 15 minutes) 7013A From Seogang Elementary School to Hongik Girl's Middle & High School

(Within 10 minutes) Mapo 08 From Hongik University to Seongseo Elementary School

I went to see Dormitory 3 on February 8th when many workers were busy finishing the construction. Dormitory 3 is a small and it accommodates only about two hundred people. The dorm is divided into two parts: A and B Buildings.

Building A is for men. It is five-story building, placed at the front, which is the road side. Because of structural reasons, there are special rooms only in Building A, such as a single room.

Building B is for women. It is four-story building, placed at the back side. All the rooms in Building B have the same floorplan.

Each room looked exactly the same as with Dormitory 2. Each facility looked alike to those of Dormitory 2, including furniture, bathroom, and heater controller Dormitory 1 rooms are centrally heated. And there is a resting lounge each floor.

Dormitory fee is about 1.2 million won per semester. It means that the cost of Dormitory 2 is the same as the combined cost of Dormitory 3 and the cost of riding the bus.

¡°The cafeteria is not ready for food service and maybe it would be impossible to find a food company which is willing to work here,¡± the chief of the dormitory administration said, who allowed me to accompany him. He said he is thinking of a new idea for better utilizing this space, such as a share kitchen.

According to the dormitory system in Hongik University, students¡¯ GPA scores of the last semester are used for deciding if students can live in each dormitory. So we can judge the popularity of each dormitory by students¡¯ cut-off scores. For this semester, Dormitory 2 was most popular, in spite of the highest fee. When you decide to move in to the dorm, choose the right one that best fits your circumstance.
