[Vol.209] EditorialTwins are Around Us

These days, the weather is gorgeous. Still, we can¡¯t go on picnics, or go to amusement parks, zoos, and so on because of the pandemic, COVID-19. The government has strongly carried out a social distancing policy to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Until the time when the March edition was issued, I did not expect this pandemic would last so long and influence so many places around the world. Under this circumstance, most activities in public spaces that we usually enjoy are out of reach. I miss my usual daily life of just a few months ago. I hope that this situation becomes better before our May edition is printed.

Our magazine will continue with a special keyword as before. This edition¡¯s keyword is ¡°Twins¡±. I guess many people think of twin sisters, twin brothers, Gemini, and so on when they hear the word ¡°Twins¡±. We tried to enlarge the range of the word ¡°Twins¡±. When we look around us, we can find various similar things that look almost the same or are intrinsically the same things, even if they look different at first. In other words, similarities and sameness are so attractive that they make people look again and ponder them. In this issue, we do our best to deal with various aspects of twins in many fields. We look at biological twins and discover similarities in architecture and the arts. We hope that everyone enjoys the keyword itself and figures out what we want to convey through it.

Every May, The Hongik Tidings staff is very busy as it has just a short time to write, edit, and design the articles. Moreover, we have to seek new reporters who will lead the future of The Hongik Tidings. Sometimes, this busyness makes us feel exhausted, but we can learn lot from these experiences. Under the harsh condition that the virus has disrupted our meetings and schedule, we will overcome the difficulties. I really appreciate the members of The Hongik Tidings who always do their best in their positions. The reporters, the designers, and the professors mean a lot to me. Most of all, I want to thank the readers who eagerly participate in our events and take an interest in our magazine. We check every comment, postcard, and e-mail readers send to us. Since the school lectures are proceeding on the Internet, most students do not visit Hongik University. We are very worried that no one is reading our magazine nowadays. In spite of this difficult situation, the events crossword puzzle and golden ticket were successful. We are very pleased with the result of our events. The Hongik Tidings promises that we will hold more interesting events and publish more articles with good quality. Maybe new members will join the activities, such as the meetings, retreats, and news gathering, and The Tidings will become more active. I look forward to returning to school life at the end of the pandemic. See you in Hongik University soon!
