About the Moon

Time flies quicker than usual. The second semester of 2020 is just around the corner. One of the big holidays in Korea, Chuseok, is also coming. Because of the spread of COVID-19, people have too much stress from social distancing. I hope people have a good time with their families and relieve their stress during Chuseok. Personally, I like September the most. The weather, delicious food, the start of a new semester¡¦. September was always full of glad things. I really look forward to this September and I wish you the same.

The keyword for this September¡¯s edition is ¡°Moon¡±. The reason we selected this keyword was that we could deal with a lot of aspects of it so that we can make our edition more interesting. And the moon is already familiar to us. Every day we see the moon in the night sky. People have always been interested in exploring the moon since the 20th century. The moon has been regarded as a mysterious thing that rabbits live on, listens to people¡¯s stories and so on. From ancient times, people admired the moon and the moon itself symbolizes purity, girls, and serenity. Whenever an eclipse occurred, people considered it as an evil omen. Although most of the mysterious phenomena related to the moon have been unfolded by scientific principles, people still think the moon is very magical and odd.

The moon always lights the dark night. It helps living creatures act in the night. It also has many faces. Sometimes it consoles sad and lonely people, reminds one of their darlings or beautiful creatures like angels.

Therefore, it was very hard to decide what topics to write about for our articles. The articles in this issue show our agony. We tried to explain the principles of an eclipse and introduce literature that uses a moon metaphor to illustrate how to love sensuously. In addition to this, we interviewed a person who is interested in the moon and we introduce several artworks that show the beauty of the moon. We are sure that people will like our contents and be fascinated by various aspects of the moon.

The Hongik Tidings prepared several interactive items for the September edition. We always welcome your participation in our contests, a cross word puzzle and a picture puzzle. Moreover, we will recruit new reporters and designers who spend some time to have great experiences at Hongik Tidings. So, please show a lot of interest to us. Heo Junyoung, Lee Sooah, Kim Eunjae, and Heo Yoona leave the Hongik Tidings after the release of the September edition. They have worked hard and did a great job as reporters and designers. I want to say to them that they can be proud of themselves for what they have done. The rest of us will do our best and continuously publish good articles. New changes will be in the Hongik Tidings with the start of the new semester.

The current situation that COVID-19 is around us will not end within a few months, but I wish everyone will cheer up and have a wonderful semester. Keep our composure and always look on the bright side! Thank you and enjoy our magazine.
