Editorial _ vol.215

During this vacation, living with the unyielding Corona Virus and scorching summer weather, daily life seemed quite monotonous. I felt as if this routine would last forever, so publishing the September issue seemed like an occasion far far away. Well, time flew by and our new semester has already begun hoping for the Corona Virus to blow over

One of the most frequently heard expression these days is ¡°MZ generation¡±. This refers to the millennials born between the early 1980s and mid-1990s, and the Z generation born between the mid-1990s through the early 2000s; in other words, people presently aged in their teens to forties. They are often defined as people familiar with the digital environment, sensitive to the latest trends, open to individuality and unconventional experiences that are different from others. When discussing this generation, it includes not only their culture but also the social changes they face, such as the lightspeed development of technology and the pressures of getting their place in the current overburdened society. In particular, looking at the young athletes competing in the Olympics held in late July and early August, I could realize that the leading generation of our society has been replaced by the MZ generation. This shift points that it is a time when many things intersect, and where an unpredictable future awaits.

Perhaps that's why, without much opposition, Tidings¡¯ members were enthusiastically in favor of the keyword "coexistence" for this issue. The stories that came to mind when thinking of the keyword were all different, but the importance of the word ¡°coexistence¡± holds true in this rapidly changing, diversified society and cannot be discounted. In this issue, there are stories about the coexistence between the past and present, human interaction with nature, technology and other humans, plus more! Why not feel the march of autumn¡¯s cool breeze and high sky by reading the stories Tidings has prepared?
